Brooklyn Dusk

So excited to call today my "Friday." It's Matt's birthday tomorrow, so we're spending the day together in Brooklyn. He's going to get my weenie tattoo (if he can get a walk-in appointment) so we match, and then we're going to grab lunch at Katz deli. We pretty much never spend weekdays just exploring Brooklyn/ NYC so it will be a blast. Then we're having a birthday BBQ on Saturday! Oh how i love eventful weekends! Have a good one everyone!

P.S. it seems like you guys enjoyed the past two blog posts - they're a bit different than usual. If there's any other tutorials you would like to see, let me know in comments!

How to Edit So Your Whites All Look the Same on Instagram

Hi guys! I get asked this question all of the time, so I figured I would create a post explaining how I get my whites consistent across my instagram feed.

It is so important for branding to have a "look and feel" to your instagram feed (if you're just posting pictures of friends and parties, than ignore this!) One of the easiest ways I find that consistency is by making sure all of my whites are identical, even if some are taken inside (and the lighting is yellow and warm) or if some are snapped outside (and the sky adds a blue tint). Here's how I do this:

First I add my filter of choice in VSCO cam. I usually use the A4 filter, as I like the washed out brown tones it adds to the image! Then I save the image out.

This is where it gets tricky. I upload the saved out image (with the already applied VSCO filter) into Snapseed, a photo editing app. Within Snapseed, there is a tool called "Selective." Click on it.

1. Click on the white areas in your image (you may need to use a few selections, and that's fine.

2. Up the Brightness a bit in each white area.

3. Reduce the saturation all the way (in only the white areas)

By fully desaturating all off your whites, it ensures that they are all the same tone!

I'm sure there's other ways to do this, but this is just how I do it! Hope this helps!

Why Turning on Post Notifications Won't Help

Hi Guys! I figured since I work in social media, I would take a few minutes to write this post and explain WHY you should absolutely NOT turn on post notifications, or listen to the 8 million posts in your feed requesting this.

Algorithms (similar to the Facebook News Feed) show you what you want to see. This means if you "like" someones posts who you follow on a regular basis, than their posts will continue to show up in your feed. If you "hate-follow" people, or just follow somebody out of guilt because unfollowing may cause problems, these are the people who will no longer show up in your feed.

You should NOT turn on post notifications because:

1. Whether you are notified has NO bearing on the algorithm whatsoever. If you like a users posts, you will still see them. Instagram is most likely not tracking or taking into consideration whose posts you are notified about.

2. You will be overwhelmed with SO many notifications, when it is totally unnecessary!

3. You may get notified that X user has posted, but STILL not like their photo. If you eventually get annoyed by the notification and take it off, you will STILL not see them in your feed.

I hope this clears things up! Please don't turn notifications on for me! If you 'like' my photos, I'll still be there :)

Portland, Oregon

After years of dreaming about visiting Portland, Oregon, I finally had a chance to tag along with Matt on one of his work trips. I always pictured Portland as the only place besides NY that I could see myself living and fitting in. I was definitely not let down at all by all of the incredible things to do (and how walkable to city is!) but I was a bit surprised by how rainy it was. It rained every day of our trip. By the end, we just stopped caring about walking around damp and frizzy haha!

Thank you all SO much for your suggestions on places to go! We went to as many as we could, so I figured I would report back on some of our favorite spots.

The first thing we did was grab some Voodoo Doughnuts. We each got a cereal covered donut, and then split a 3rd which was maybe not the best idea. I was impressed, that is until we tried Blue Star Donuts, which was recommended by a bartender from Cascade Brewery. They are soooo fresh, and the icing is a little lighter with a lot more flavor. Ok, so now you probably think all we did was eat donut (kinda!) J/k, here's some other things we saw...

We went vintage shopping at House of Vintage and it was hands-down the most vintage I've ever seen in one place. They had so much of everything! It's not SUPER cheap, like Miami prices, but it is definitely cheaper than Brooklyn! I walked away with two maxi dresses for the summer.

Then we walked to Music Millennium records. I finally picked up my favorite Sufjan Stevens album, and Matt walked away with two iron and wine albums.

A lot of you suggested stopping by Powell's Books, and it was SO well-organized. We lost probably two hours in there, in totally different parts of the store (Matt likes the history section which totally doesn't interest me haha) It's a perfect place to spend a rainy day.

Matt's favorite clothing company Poler has their flagship store in Portland, which he was super excited about! It was merchandised awesome, and had this beautiful and intricate mural painted on the wall when you walk in that I loved.

When Matt was working on Sunday, I took an Uber to Hawthorne Ave and walked all the way back Downtown to our hotel just exploring by myself, eating mangoes. yum. I stopped into Lounge Lizard and they had sooo many things I would have taken home if I wasn't hopping on a flight.

Hope you enjoyed the little city guide! Have a great weekend!

Spring calls for...

When spring rolls around (YES, IT'S FINALLY HERE!) I always grab stripes & Keds, and red lipstick of course. I am so excited to get outside more and take walks on the beach with matty / go hiking upstate. I seriously consider Keds my go-to, because they're cute enough to walk around in, but also to get active in!

I picked up this pair, the Keds champion canvas, at Zappos, which I actually hadn't tried out before this, even though I've heard such great things (and have read pretty much every book out there about Tony Hsieh, the CEO who I am kind of obsessed with). The shipping is 100% free and they have a 365 day return policy so you can order a ton of colors to test them out, which is incredible. After reading so many awesome stories about their customer service, I'm happy to report it did not disappoint! Anyway, I can't wait to rock these Keds all spring, and because I'm a crazed fan I have them in red, breeze salt blue, cat print (worn here), glitter (worn here) and polka dot (worn here).

* I teamed up with my friends at to bring you this post! Thanks for supporting my sponsors!

Washington DC Adventures

My little brother Matthew lives out in Washington D.C. and I had to pleasure of staying in his new home and getting a personalized tour around the city! When I lived in Brooklyn back in 2009, he lived in the city and we shared tons of fun adventures together, so it was a lot of fun getting to adventure with him again just like old times. Here's a few spots he took me to that are a must-see when visiting!

Georgetown Cupcakes were delicious, and may even compete with Magnolia's here in NY! The line was long, but it was totally worth the wait. My brother said the only way to eat them is with a cup of milk, which I thought was funny.

I absolutely loved walking around Adams Morgan. We spent some time at Crooked Beat records which was super organized, and walked away with some favorites. I bought The Tallest Man on Earth, and my brother got Tame Impala!

We took the train to the Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The National Mall is a must-see, and I always love seeing the ducks swimming in the lakes surrounding it!

Here's my brother and I. Think we look alike? I don't at all...

Our Dining Room Remodel With ATGStores

Since moving in, we focused so much on our living room space, that we didn't even touch the dining room. It has beautiful light and bright white walls, so it was super fun creating the space with! They have an endless amount of product on the site, so the space could have gone in a ton of directions, but I chose to keep the color scheme aligned with the living room, since it is only a few steps away!

It was tough to find a rug that made sense next to our already existing rug, but this one worked perfectly. I wanted to add pops of gold into the space, and fell in LOVE with this Zuo Modern dining chair. It's now one of my favorite pieces in the house.

The space before was very plain and white. We put our older table in it, just to fill it, but didn't think it out too much.

I am so SO excited to finally have proper dinner parties, because the shape of the table fits 6 people, and can be beautifully set up! Here's a few sneak peeks of the table arrangement for dinner one night:

I hope you enjoyed! I'll be sure to share tons of dinner parties in the future! :)

Portland, Oregon Here We Come!

Matt and I are off to Portland, Oregon today! We're flying after work this evening, and luckily because of the time difference we arrive in time to wander around and grab some dinner! Thank you all so much for your incredible suggestions of things to do on instagram, we're going to tackle as many of them as we can (with Voodoo donuts as #1)! I'll be working from the hotel tomorrow, but we have all Friday evening and the weekend to explore! We'll make sure to snap pictures. Xo
